  1. SCRAMBLE FROM MUNICH
  2.  
  3. During April, 1945, the Third Reich was 
  4. rapidly losing control over its various 
  5. forces.  This was reflected in the 
  6. Luftwaffe by a lack of coordinated 
  7. operations from airfields throughout 
  8. Germany.  Heinz Bar, head of the 
  9. Erprobungskommando 162 at that time, 
  10. was forced to move his flight evaluation 
  11. group from Rechlin to Munich for 
  12. integration into Jagdverband 44, Adolf 
  13. Galland's veteran Me 262 unit.  
  14.  
  15. When Galland was wounded on April 26, 
  16. Bar took command of the unit, and with 
  17. the U.S. Army nearing Munich, he 
  18. supervised the evacuation of the Me 262s 
  19. and He 162s to Salzburg.  On May 3, these 
  20. aircraft were destroyed to prevent them 
  21. from falling into Allied hands, and the unit 
  22. surrendered.
